All you need is LOVE!

Happy Valentines Day!!! I have to admit, I’m not a huge fan of this (commercial) holiday, I am not one who gets too excited about jewelry & roses or fancy dining. I am just not a flower and diamonds kind of girl…I much prefer daisies or a colorful spring bouquet to roses, and I really prefer “just because” flowers any other day of the week. Over the past 16 years of being together, my husband has always found the perfect balance and has always been so great to me. I typically do get flowers on Valentines Day because he firmly believes that just because I say he doesn’t have to or shouldn’t spend the money he better in case its one of those “she says no but means yes” moments, but truthfully he is just a wonderful husband! With all that said, the thing I can say that I do love about Valentines Day is the reminder to slow down and count your blessings for all those that you love and who love you. Valentine’s Day doesn’t just have to be about that “someone special”, it should be a day to just pick up the phone and say “I love you” to all those that mean so much to you, something we should really do on a daily basis. I try not to make Valentines Day too commercial in our house, we try and limit the candy and all the sweets that seem to naturally be a part of this holiday with my girls. Tonight we will continue our tradition of having home cooked lasagna & movie night as we have done for the past 16 years. Its something that got started way back when we first starting dating and has continued for so long now that our girls even look forward to it. As I was trying to decide what movies to watch tonight, these two came to mind so I thought I’d share a clip from each, please excuse the horrible quality and subtitles from the youtube links….. I must admit its been awhile since I updated the blog, that doesn’t mean things have not been super busy at the studio, in fact just the opposite! The fall holiday season was busier than ever, and my typical slow January where I get to catch up hasn’t exactly been slow, and for that I am thankful! I have so many new ideas and things I hope to unveil in this new year I can hardly sleep at night. I beyond thankful that I am able to do what I love and meet so many wonderful families, documenting their family story.

So it is time to catch up on some of the wonderful families and babies I’ve had the opportunity to hang out with over the past few months. Meet baby *S* she was absolutely perfect at the session, she was so sleepy and bendable it was wonderful. She has the most wonderful, parents and is blessed to have a *big* brother who is equally as beautiful as his baby sister. He was such a little gentlemen at the session and I have no doubt he is going to be a huge help to his parents and have so much to teach his baby sister. It was so wonderful to spend a few hours with such a beautiful family inside and out.

One of the things I love about my job, although I hate calling it a job because I love what I do, its more like my passion, is to watch the little ones I photograph grow up. I love it when I get an email from their proud parents of their accomplishments, or open the newspaper and read about a family I’ve photographed. I love it when I’m working out watching the morning news and see one of *my* little babies on the 1st Birthday Club on Fox 13, I just love it!

I also love it when youth find something they are passionate about and pursue it one hundred percent. Meet my 13 year old cousin Chelsea Baker, better know as “Little Miss Perfect”! I didn’t photograph her as a baby, she was born years before I started my business, although there is a good chance I did capture her as a little one amongst all the family pictures I’ve taken. She is quickly becoming a super star in Little League Baseball and in the media. She began pitching at the age of seven and has thrown two perfect games in the past year. She has been featured on most of the local news stations, in magazines, and most recently a team from ESPN came down to document her story which will air next Tuesday, July 20th at 7pm. They started running the teaser which is incredible, I can’t wait to watch it next week. She has a super supportive family, she works hard and is passionate about baseball. We are all so proud of her!!!

I have to admit I’ve loved working with this family, we had such a fun time at their maternity session, remember this gorgeous mama-to-be? Beautiful little Grace was hiding in there, not so little, she held the record for length at Tampa General the weekend she was there from what I understand. She is absolutely beautiful just as I expected, and her mommy and daddy could not be more proud. She has lots of family from out of town waiting patiently on me to return from vacation so I could post a sneak peek, so I hope these will hold them over until the entire gallery is ready to view.

I love it when I can see the absolute joy in a parent’s eye when they hold and look at the new little life they created. This was one of those moments, and I just love this image of Daddy and his little girl. This is such a sweet family, with a beautiful new addition.

against looking this great a couple weeks before giving birth! I had the best time photographing this mommy+daddy-to-be, they are beautiful inside and out and are so excited to meet their little girl who should be arriving any day now. I can’t wait to meet her as well, I am so looking forward to their newborn session, I just know the baby will be as beautiful as they are.

Just when I thought my heart couldn’t handle anymore…

My twins started preschool this week too! In the blink of any eye the past two years have come and gone, life with twins and an older daughter has extremely busy. The girls are my *babies*, we rarely refer to them as the twins, typically just as *the babies*, although they are officially toddlers now. They are part-time preschoolers, which is about all momma can handle, and lets just say they don’t have their older sister’s sense of independence. There were some tears from all 3 of us, but I am told theirs didn’t last long. The first day they hid under a blanket together, with the whole “if I can’t see you, you can’t see me” thinking for awhile, and today I am told they sat together on a mat to comfort each other. It does make it easier knowing they have each other, they certainly have a special bond. Even though there were tears on the first day, they still came home on cloud nine that they now have their own school shirts and bags, just like their big sister. They insisted on changing into their shirts as soon as we got home, and demanded on wearing them again (and bringing their bags) the next day to Target. Today they were all smiles when I picked them up, showing me that they got stamps (belly stamps on friday), and they were so proud to tell me they didn’t cover their eyes….which meant they didn’t go hide, lol. Its clearly been a great thing for them, our shy one has already come out of her shell, rambling about her day and the wild one has been busy entertaining her teachers with her personality. I know it goes by all too fast, if I’m not careful I will blink again and it will be time to post about their first day of kindergarten, and I’m just not ready for that!

My oldest has officially started kindergarten. It seems like yesterday I was in the hospital in total awe of her tiny little fingers and toes, spending sleepless nights wondering if I would make it through the *baby* stage. Everyone told me “it will go by so fast” and they were right, it has. She has become little Miss Independent, not a shy bone in her body, not afraid of anything and I could not be more proud of the girl she has become. It finally started to sink in back in May that it was going to really happen, as she was singing at her end of the year preschool program, I started to whelp up and did my best to hold back my tears, but she knows me all too well. We got into the car and she asked me “mommy why were you crying, are you sad I am going to kindergarten?” of course I answered “yes” and in her typical grown-up little voice she replied “mom, its not a big deal, its just another school”. Her attitude didn’t change much over the summer, no anxiety, no fears, only excitement as she was about to embark on the “real deal”. So Monday morning rolled around and I couldn’t deny it any longer, I have a little kindergartner. I will admit it was not a tear free morning, but only on my part, she basically played the part of *Nemo* bouncing off the walls, “FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL, FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL….” she could not have been more excited and I think you can see it in her official first day picture below. So we are one day shy of the first week, and she continues to be just as excited about *school*, she thinks its the coolest thing to *buy* your lunch at school and get to pick chocolate milk when Mom’s not watching…. although today she forgot to pay for her lunch and had a few tears on the way home thinking that she stole her cuban sandwich, we assured her we would go pay first thing in the morning and it would all be okay. I am having a hard time letting go, letting her make her own decisions, make new friends that I don’t know, but I guess its all part of being a mom, I’m wondering if I might just learn more this year than she will…

Try, Try and Try Again – Indian Rocks Beach Photography

That is exactly what we had to do….. after 3 attempts we were finally able to squeeze in this session with one of my great friends from way back in Junior High…. I think we actually met in 7th grade I can remember sitting behind her, just can’t remember the class, Geometry maybe??? She was the *new* girl in school, and we have been friends ever since. Over the years *C* and her family have traveled the world with the Marine Corp, and have recently settled down in VA over the past couple years. We don’t get to see each other often and our session was short and sweet, but it was wonderful to spend an hour with her and her kids on the beach this past week.
